What was built

Epic is a custom Chromium build aimed at AI and Web3 use. Orienting the browser toward that audience meant adjusting its default behavior and built-in surfaces for AI and Web3 browsing patterns, rather than relying on general-purpose Chromium defaults or third-party extensions. Alongside that, the build carries its own privacy features and full branding, covering both how the browser protects the user and how it presents itself as a distinct product rather than a relabeled version of Chromium.

The engineering challenge

Combining AI and Web3 orientation with custom privacy features in a single browser means several categories of change intersect in the same codebase at once, rather than being isolated to one subsystem. Each area touches a different part of Chromium on its own, so keeping them consistent with each other, and with the browser's own branding, takes more coordination than any one of them alone.
